Meet Opportunities

Running a swim meet is no small matter. Each meet requires a large number of people behind the scenes to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable time and that everything runs without a hitch.  Volunteers are required to perform the most obvious jobs, like refereeing and timing.  But just as important are the jobs spectators don't see, such as getting the swimmers prepared for their events and to the start on time ready to swim.  Here is a list of different opportunities for volunteering available at each Swim Meet.

Referee
The Referee is in charge of the swim meet, ensuring that it is conducted in a safe, fair, and orderly manner. Becoming a Referee requires additional training and certification.  If you are interested in this, the trainings happen each year before the season starts. Please let us know and we will get you the date options. 

Starter
The Starter is responsible for ensuring that each swimmer is ready before each heat and that a clean and fair start is performed by all of the swimmers.  Becoming a Starter requires additional training and certification. If you are interested in this, the trainings happen each year before the season starts. Please let us know and we will get you the date options.

Stoke and Turn Judge 
Stroke and Turn Judges ensure that each stroke is performed legally, ensuring a fair race for all swimmers. Becoming a Stroke and Turn Judge requires additional training and certification. If you are interested in this, the trainings happen each year before the season starts. Please let us know and we will get you the date options.

Head Timer
The Head Timer is responsible for the lane timers and their equipment.  The Head Timer will stand-in for a Lane Timer if necessary for a period of time, as well as ensure that any issues related to the timing of the race are resolved quickly and fairly.

Lane Timer
Each Lane Timer is responsible for accurately timing each heat for a specific lane.

Relay Judge
The Relay Judge ensures that the swimmers leave the blocks at the proper time during the relay events. 

Meet Computer Operator
The Meet Computer Operator is responsible for performing the data entry necessary to enter all of the swimmers times into the meet software.

Head Clerk of Course
The Head Clerk of Course is responsible for getting the swimmers in the team area prepared and staged for their upcoming events. The work together with the other Clerks of Course to ensure that each age group is ready and organized when necessary.

The Clerks of Course work together to make sure the different swimmer age groups are staged for their events. 

Runner
The Runner is essential in delivering the timer sheets and other paperwork related to the meet to where it needs to be.  They are also extremely helpful in bringing water to the officials and timers who are unable to leave their positions on the pool deck.

Concession Workers
Who wouldn't want a nice cold beverage on a warm July day?  Concessions Workers are responsible for running the concession stand during the meet.

Meet Set Up/Clean Up
Each meet requires the poll deck to be set up to accommodate the swimmers, spectators, officials, and other necessary activities.  The are needs to be prepared before the meet so we can run a safe and orderly meet that runs smoothly and efficiently. After the meet ends the pool deck needs to be returned to its regular use state.

Ribbon Writer
After the swimming is complete, there is still work to be done.  Each place ribbon earned by a swimmer needs to be labeled with the meet and time information and sorted into files so the swimmers can pick them up at practice during the week.  This position takes place after the meet is completed, not during the meet.
